Oxford, Miss. (WTF) – Marcie Nelson, 19, affixed a light-blue 30A sticker on her 2009 Volkswagen Jetta last week, instantly enhancing her reputation amongst her fellow drivers. The iconic sticker, which reportedly indicates that the owner has visited or vacationed along Florida’s scenic Highway 30A, is widely regarded as a must-have for any Ole Miss student that has ever traveled within 100 miles of the area.
Nelson, an Idahoan who has never ventured to the Gulf Coast, says she found an extra sticker at her cousin’s lake house during the Thanksgiving holidays.
“The moment I placed it on my rear windshield, things started to change. People started approaching me in parking lots, asking if I preferred Destin or Seaside. I didn’t even know what they were talking about, honestly,” Nelson said.
Nelson’s roommate, Leah Trafford, 19, says she immediately began to respect Nelson more after she spotted the 30A sticker on her vehicle. The Madison, Mississippi native who once shunned the “werido from out west,” saw the sticker once she returned from winter break and decided it was time to invite her to RUF.
“I feel like she can finally meet my other friends. They can at least identify with her now,” Trafford said.
