On Sunday, January 31, 2021, at approximately 4:00 PM, the Oxford Police Department received a 911 call from Walmart management who stated that they had a subject inside the store telling customers that he planted a bomb inside the store, and that they needed to leave before it went off.
Officers quickly arrived and were directed to the suspect who was trying to leave. An arrest was made without further incident.
The Walmart store was quickly evacuated and a perimeter was set up until additional resources could arrive. Three explosives detection canines from other agencies were called to the scene to assist OPD in searching the store. At 7:47 pm, the all-clear was given.
Jordan Montrey Williams (26 of Oxford, Mississippi) was arrested and will be formally charged later today. OPD will release the charges, his picture, and bond after that happens.
Chief Jeff McCutchen would like to thank the Oxford Fire Department, the Ole Miss Police Department, the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office, the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the Panola County Sheriff’s Department, and all the Wal-mart employees for their assistance.
This investigation is still ongoing and if anyone has any information please call the Oxford Police Department at 662-232-2400.
