New Interactive Map to Highlight Mississippi’s Musical Legacy by Spotlighting GRAMMY® Winners, Nominees & More Legends from the Delta
Cleveland, Miss. —GRAMMY Museum® Mississippi unveiled a new addition to its permanent exhibits experience. The Mississippi GRAMMY® Archives—Mississippi Map is now open to the public in the Mississippi Gallery of the Museum. Made possible by a $150,000 grant from the state of Mississippi, which was secured in 2019 by now Commissioner Willie Simmons—the Mississippi GRAMMY Archives is an interactive map that features Mississippi-born GRAMMY winners and nominees, GRAMMY Hall of Fame inductees and Lifetime Achievement Award winners and highlights their connections to the Mississippi Country Music Trail and Blues Trail. The interactive map serves to educate all visitors on the vast impact Mississippians have made on the American musical landscape.
“We are so excited to unveil this exciting new addition to our Museum here in Mississippi,” said Emily Havens, Executive Director of GRAMMY Museum Mississippi. “Thanks to Commissioner Willie Simmons, and the great state of Mississippi, this interactive experience will help us share with our visitors the important contributions Mississippi and Mississippians have made to the GRAMMY Awards® and American music history.”
Commissioner Willie Simmons—then Senator—had previously secured the $150,000 grant from the state of Mississippi for the new interactive musical map in 2019, but the project was delayed due to COVID-19. The project, which was led by producer Michael Buday, will create more opportunities for students and all visitors to GRAMMY Museum Mississippi to explore the great musical heritage of Mississippi.
“This exhibit visually compliments the museum’s Mississippi Gallery with artful images from every corner of the state by highlighting the wealth of homegrown, GRAMMY-winning artists across musical genres. Now, visitors can virtually pinpoint on a map why the state is called the birthplace of America’s music, and even use their smart phones to connect with the Mississippi Blues Trail and Country Music Trail apps to further their own explorations of Mississippi’s extraordinary musical legacy” said Buday.
