Anubis Improv is proud to present their newest comedy show, Half & Half, Sunday, October 1 at 7 pm at The Powerhouse.
In this new-to-Oxford format, we’ll take three two-person scripts, split them in half, give one character’s lines to one actor and the other character’s lines to a different actor. On the night of the show we’ll pair each actor with an improviser. The actor has to say the lines as written, the improviser has no idea what the scene is about. Sometimes it will magically make sense, other times not so much. Either way, hilarity ensues.
For this inaugural show we received over 70 script submissions from all over the country. Our selected writers include Oxford local, Dylan Kerr, an Atlanta based playwright and technical writer, Peter Dakutis, and Denver’s Ryan Armstrong, an internationally produced and published playwright.
Our actors include Theatre Oxford veteran Deklan Powers, most recently seen in the HOKA Days production of Almost, Maine, life-long theatre performer Alyssa Lee, and Ole Miss graduate student Kapani Kirkland.
Improvisers include Anubis Improv faculty member and one half of the improv duo Kinross Kasunick Maggie White, Oxford Board Trotters founder and unofficial Oxford Comedian Laureate Connor King, and the smartest person in improv and former Happy Valley Improv member, Dr Hannah Allen.
Anubis founder David James Hamilton is one of only three people to perform as an actor, improviser, and writer for the New Orleans version of this show, You Don’t Know the Half of It. After the success of last June’s The Armano, Anubis Improv is proud to continue our partnership with the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council and Theatre Oxford to bring this magical blend of theatre and improv to the Oxford community.
Tickets are available now at oxfordarts.com and include the choice of VIP tables with complimentary snacks and drinks for $20 per two-top, $40 per four-top, or general admission tickets for $10.
