Local candidates have until 5 pm January 17 to qualify.
The Lafayette County Circuit Clerk’s office will oversee a special election Tuesday, February 6, 2024, to elect a new Alderman-At-Large in Oxford. The seat was vacated in December after John Morgan was elected Lafayette County Supervisor of District 2.
So far, three candidates have qualified for the position, Oxford-Lafayette Chamber of Commerce Chairman Jason Plunk, owner of Bullseye 95.5 FM, Alpha Transport, and Hotty Toddy Wedding Cars, Oxford realtor and apprasier Brad Feltenstein, owner of Appraisers Associated of Oxford, Inc. and Feltenstein Realty Group, and Mary Martha Crowe, Assistant Principal at Della Davidson Elementary School.
Additional candidates have until 5 pm Wednesday, January 17 to qualify for the elction. Each candidate must qualify by filling out a petition with the Circuit Clerk that must be signed by at least fifty registered voters. Qualified voters can sign more than one petition.
The nonpartisan special election will take place at the Oxford Conference Center. There will be a short window of absentee voting that will be announced by the Circuit Clerk after the qualifying deadline.
