Nonprofit to Offer Weekly Hot Meal, Toiletries, and Tutoring at Central Elementary School, Beginning August 6
More Than A Meal (MTAM), a beloved nonprofit dedicated to providing weekly hot meals, essential toiletries, and tutoring services in the Oxford, Miss., community, is excited to celebrate the start of a new school year and resume operations on August 6, 2024. The organization is ready to welcome back students and community members to its new location at Central Elementary School, located at 409 Washington Ave. in Oxford, MS, every Tuesday evening from 5 to 6:30 pm.
For fourteen years, More Than A Meal has been a cornerstone of the Oxford community, offering much-needed support and resources to individuals and families. The new location marks a significant milestone in the organization’s mission to enhance the lives of those they serve by providing a welcoming environment where community members can access nutritious meals, personal care items, and educational support.
“Moving to Central Elementary School will allow us to better serve the Oxford community with increased space and improved facilities,” said Sarah Beth Gary, executive director of More Than a Meal. “We are thrilled to be back in session with the new school year, and we look forward to continuing our work of making a positive impact on the lives of our community members.”
Each week, MTAM offers a hot meal, toiletries, and tutoring services for all ages in the Oxford-Lafayette County community, supplied by generous donors and volunteers. MTAM provides a safe and welcoming space where people can come together, share a meal, and feel seen and supported, while building a sense of community.
“When we started More Than a Meal in 2010, Oxford was much smaller and didn’t have a soup kitchen or a place for people from all walks of life to come together over a warm meal,” said founder Kristy Bridgers. “It’s been really special to see how it’s been embraced by our community. It’s a place where you can come as you are; everyone is welcome.”
More Than A Meal accepts volunteers of all ages to help serve food, engage with attendees, tutor students of all ages, or play with kids on the playground. For more information about MTAM, including how to get involved, please visit www.mtamoxford.org.
