Voters in Pontotoc, Mississippi took to the polls on Tuesday, September 16, 2014, to vote on a referendum to legalize beer and/or liquor sales in the town.
Unofficial results show 844 people voting for beer sales, and 792 voting against beer sales, while the results of the liquor referendum showed 829 voting against liquor sales and 825 voting for such sales.
1,479 people voted in the special referendum Tuesday, and 157 absentee ballots were cast as well.
The official results are still pending the outcome of 55 affidavit ballots, which will be counted on September 24.
