Filtered through the waters of Alabama’s Black Warrior River, CBDB’s Joyfunk emerges from the muddy depths bringing to light a crisp, revolving blend of progressive rock, funk, and fusion. phone.keys.wallet., CBDB’s debut album, was released in November 2012 and saw rapid success with hook heavy songs like “Slow Foxes” reaching 22K+ plays on Spotify. CBDB is currently preparing to release their second album, Joyfunk is Dead, the week of the Proud Larry’s show.
The facetiously titled sophomore effort takes Joyfunk down a more progressive route 
while still keeping its hook and groove oriented roots. CBDB has built a strong social media presence with 4K+ Facebook likes and 6K+ Twitter follows through steady touring of the Southeast playing headlining shows to dedicated followings in rooms like The Jupiter, Zydeco, Bourbon Street, Smiths Olde Bar, Terminal West, The Camel, Proud Larry’s and Exit/In. They have shared the stage with acts including Umphreys McGee, Earphunk, The Wailers, B.o.B., The Revivalists, Col. Bruce Hampton (Ret.), Moon Taxi, Mike Jones, Seven Handle Circus, Octopus Nebula, The Vegabonds, Space Capone, among many others.

CBDB is Cy Simonton, lead vocals and guitar; Kris Gottlieb, lead guitar; David Ray, bass; Glenn Dillard, sax and keys; Donald DeLoach, percussion; and Paul Oliver, drums.
On stage, CBDB parades tight, ambitious composition that seamlessly gives way to loose, adventurous musical improvisation. It pushes and pulls in different technical and creative directions, but for them, it comes down to having fun playing music with their friends.
“When you’re having a good time, that comes across,” says lead singer Cy Simonton. “There’s that back and forth between the crowd and the band … when everybody’s into it and dancing and completely in the moment … that’s Joyfunk. That’s what we bring.”
