On Friday April 24, 2015 the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office along with the Oxford Police Department conducted compliance checks in restaurants, bar and gas stations. The attachment shows the locations checked, the locations with Violation beside them were issued a citation for selling alcohol to a minor and businesses listed in red indicates this is the second time within a year they have received a citation for selling to a minor. The Oxford Police Department will continue to make it a priority to curb underage drinking and hold those accountable that allow this to go on.

Anthony Hilliard – Commercial Burglary
On Thursday April 23rd 2015, Oxford Police Officers arrested Anthony Hilliard 33 of Oxford, MS for Burglary of a Commercial Building. This was a result of a 2 year investigation into the burglary of Shipley’s. Through the investigation we were able to identify suspects and witnesses that were able to give information on Hilliard and the burglary. A warrant was issued in February of 2015 after investigators were able to gather enough information on the burglary and Hilliard. Hilliard was taken for an initial appearance at Justice Court where his bond was set at $2,500.00.

On Tuesday, April 14, 2015 investigators of the Oxford Police Department responded to the Oxford Middle School regarding threats against the school, students, and staff. Investigators were made aware of the threats by the Oxford Middle School Resource Officer. On April 17, 2014 the Youth Court Judge signed an Order of Detention for the crime of Conspiracy to Commit Murder. That same day both juveniles were picked up at their respective homes and transported to Alcorn County Juvenile Detention Center in Corinth, Mississippi. The juveniles will be held in Alcorn Country Juvenile Detention Center until their Youth Court hearing in Oxford on April 21, 2015.
Jamie Carter – Burglary – 23 of Oxford
On Wednesday April 16th officers responded to Oxford Square Townhomes in reference to a disturbance. Once on scene, officers discovered that Jamie Carter broke into and entered the residence of his girlfriend. Carter then got into a domestic disturbance with her. Carter was arrested and transported to the Lafayette County Detention Center. He has been taken before Judge Mickey Avent and his bond was set at $2,500.00. Carter is currently on probation with the Mississippi Department of Corrections and is being held pending a revocation hearing.
James Mathis – Burglary – 53 of Oxford
On April 14th officers with the Oxford Police Department responded to an auto burglary that had just occurred. The victim stated that he was following the suspect, who was later identified as James Mathis. Once officers made contact with Mathis, they found items from the victim’s car in Mathis’ possession. Mathis was arrested for auto burglary and transported to the Lafayette County Detention Center. He was taken before Judge Mickey Avent and his bond was set at $1,500.00.

On Monday, March 30, 2015, Investigators of the Oxford Police Department arrested Allen Vaughn (51) of Oxford, MS for two counts of felony Credit Card Fraud. Vaughn was arrested after officers received video of him using a stolen credit card. He has been booked and charged with two counts of Felony Credit Card Fraud. Vaughn’s bond was set at $5,000.00.
