Foxfire Ranch will host their first annual one-day Foxfire Ranch Blues Festival on March 26 from noon to midnight featuring live music, vendors, and overnight camping.
“We’ve hosted Hill Country Picnic and Hill Country Harmonica festival for three years,” said Owner Bill Hollowell. “We decided to put together a festival of our own.”
The process of organizing this event has been less of a headache for Hollowell than most would expect.
“It’s actually gone really smooth,” said Howell. “Most of the talent have played here before or are from the area, so most of the work has just been calling friends.”
Musicians playing the festival include Oxford frequent Bill “Howl-N-Madd” Perry and Leo “Bud” Welch. Bud will also be playing at Double Decker Festival in April.
“Bill [Perry] has been instrumental in keeping the blues alive here,” said Hollowell. “We can call him up on a Sunday night and he’s ready to play.”
Other regional acts include Christone “Kingfish” Ingram as well as Lightnin’ Malcolm. The full lineup can be found online with more to be added yet.
The festival will feature an acoustic stage and a larger stage that will start later in the day.
“The acoustic stage will kick off the day at noon, it will be under the pavilion,” said Hollowell. “Then we’ll have the bigger Budweiser-sponsored stage at the back of the open air area start around 2 pm and go until midnight.”
Foxfire Ranch was established in 2008 and has since brought the area a steady string of blues events, focusing on maintaining their weekly Sunday blues events.
“We have a lot of experience with blues events,” said Hollowell. “Putting the event together has really been a pleasure.”
Since its inception, Foxfire Ranch has been recognized nationally as the best small-town outdoor music venue and place to visit by many publications.
Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 the day of the festival. Students will receive a $5 discount on admission costs and tickets for children 13 or under are only $5. Camping, RV, and parking passes are available as well. Coolers are $10 at the gate, but remember that glass is not permitted.
