Occupy Water Valley Marks 100th Miserable Day with Pleadings for Food
by Sherman Smithers – from The Local Voice #148
Oxford, Miss (WTF) – On its 100th pathetic day of existence, Occupy Water Valley participants held hands, sang protest songs and begged practially anyone within shouting distance for something edible.
Both protestors gathered in front of the Water Valley Chamber of Commerce and held posters which read, “We R the 99” and “Give Me My Minimum Wage Job Back.” One protestor was putting the finishing touches on their newest sign, “Also, We’ll Take Bread, Too.”
The mayor of Water Valley declined to comment, however, other citizens took the opportunity to openly vent about the situation.
“For weeks, they’ve stood around screaming about corporate greed and entitlements. Now, they keep pestering me about leftovers. I’ve got mouths to feed, darnit, ‘” said Danny Slaughter, 32. “One of the guys even admitted he’d take a Big Mac at this point. Isn’t a Big Mac one of the 1%?”
The protestors have thus far failed to agree on what they demand from the city, though food is a major concern. They plan to continue marching until justice is served, or they die from starvation.
