After the game against the Florida State Seminoles, the battle against Wofford will be a welcomed sight. This doesn’t mean the Rebels won’t have to be prepared. They run a triple option offense that can be difficult to replicate in practice. Therefore, it can be difficult to plan for a team like this.
Even with that said, this should be a cake walk for the Rebels. The Wofford defense won’t have any answer for the Ole Miss offensive game. This could get ugly quickly.
What makes this even more of a potentially early blowout is the fact that the Terriers lost their starting QB. Evan Jacks suffered an injury to his left knee in Fall practice. Jacks was coming into this season as their number one option at QB. He rushed for over 675 yards and seven TDs last year. Now the job falls to either Brad Butler or Brandon Goodson.
If you are looking for a reason to come out for the Rebels’ first home game of the season, I may have one. This may be the first opportunity for the Rebel faithful to see the future of Ole Miss football on the field. Freshman QB Shea Patterson may get his first real playing time against this Wofford team.
Plus, we could see extensive playing time for freshman wide receivers A.J. Brown, D.K. Metcalf and Tre Nixon. You could also see more of running back Eric Swinney. It will give him a chance to really show the fans his ability.
This will be a good palate cleanser in preparation for the next two games against Alabama and Georgia. Enjoy the Grove this week. Ole Miss 72 Wofford 14
