The Georgia Bulldogs come into town next after the Ole Miss Rebels’ football game against the Alabama Crimson Tide. This is the first time the Bulldogs have been in Oxford since the dreadful 2-10 year in 2011. So seeing the Georgia faithful coming into Oxford will be a different sight for most of the student body. Be aware, they will travel well.
The Bulldogs have used the first two games of the season to try to settle the debate at their starting quarterback position. Senior Greyson Lambert started the first game against the North Carolina Tar Heels. But he eventually gave way to highly touted freshman Jacob Eason. Eason impressed Head Coach Kirby Smart enough to get the start against Nicholls. But he was replaced in the fourth quarter by Lambert after throwing a interception. So who knows if that battle is settled.
The lackluster 26-24 win was enough to earn the ire of Coach Smart. They are hoping to use the game against Missouri to get back on track. Although they may be still trying to find their true answer at quarterback, they remain a very dangerous team. Their offensive identity comes from their run game. And that run game is lead by Nick Chubb. Coming off a devastating injury last year, Chubb has proven he is back in excellent form. It took everyone of his 222 rushing yards against North Carolina to secure a win. Then the following week he had to control the ball and run out the clock against Nicholls to escape an upset.
Ole Miss will have it’s hands full against him. The Rebels defensive line has proven to be a strength for the team. They will be vital to slowing down Chubb. However, they are more than capable. This is a squad that helped keep Florida State preseason Heisman Trophy candidate, Dalvin Cook to under 100 yards in the Rebel’s first loss of the year.
But again, the Rebel’s strength will remain on the offensive side of the ball with Chad Kelly. As good as their defense is suppose to be, I don’t know if they have to ability to contain the Ole Miss offense when it is moving at “Talladega” speed. That’s when the offense is quickly getting back to the line of scrimmage and snapping the ball before the defense can get set. Look for a great game by A.J. Brown and Evan Engram. I don’t think the Bulldogs have an answer for them over the middle of the field. Georgia is good but they are still a year away from being where they want to be.
I think it remains close until the end. I don’t know why, but I have a feeling that the Landsharks will eat Sept. 25th. Ole Miss 34 Georgia 20
