I got the news of Brandon Niemeyer’s passing about 4:30 in the morning. As is unfortunately the case these days, I didn’t get the sad news from a friend. An Amber Alert about a little 6-year-old boy in Jackson who was kidnapped outside Kroger went off on my phone.
I woke up and scrolled through Facebook. And I saw that Brandon Niemeyer left us yesterday.
Right now the grief is heavy inside our hearts, and it’s hard to read all the comments people have left without starting to weep. Living for the moment inside another time zone, my mind scrolled backwards to the last time I saw one of my all-time favorite people. And deep inside memory, I retrieved this story I had all but forgotten about.
It’s here outside Square Books that, for me, Brandon Niemeyer will forever have a fresh haircut. And be alive. And well. And happy.
