The Z Bed and Breakfast has welcomed guests for over seven years. Nestled away on Pierce Avenue, the bed and breakfast is a short walk to the Ole Miss campus or Square while removed enough to avoid any of the nightlife noise if you so choose.
The bed and breakfast has stayed a family owned and run business since the day they opened. Owned by Kelley and Lou Zeleskey, The Z was originally managed by their two other daughters until this past July when younger daughter Mary Kelley Zeleskey took over as manager.“It was a great time for me to come back to Oxford,” said Zeleskey. “We had the seven year anniversary celebration and then I took over as manager.”
While she is only a few months into the job, Zeleskey was frequently helping her parents with the property while in school at Ole Miss.
“When I was in school here is when they were opening it,” said Zeleskey. “So I was constantly over at The Z helping with whatever they needed.”
Before The Z was opened, the small cottage was where the eldest daughters lived and the parents would stay while visiting from out of town.
“They lived there a year and then my parents turned it into the bed and breakfast,” said Zaleskey. “My mom is an interior designer based out of Houston, Texas and she designed [The Z]. It’s a little family gig.”
After checking in, guests are treated to a long list of amenities including fire pits, evening cocktails, and complimentary meals.
“We have homemade baked goods when they arrive and offer complimentary wine if they want to relax and have a drink,” said Manager Mary Kelley Zeleskey. “We do a complimentary breakfast. We have an onsite chicken coop so we use those fresh eggs along with basil and tomatoes that we grow in the garden to make an egg dish that guests seem to really enjoy. We’re always keeping it fresh.”
Part of managing the property is living in the upstairs suite of the three bedroom home so as to be available for any needs that may arise.
“We’re just upstairs so if the guests need anything all they have to do is knock,” said Zeleskey. “It’s a cute little cottage style home so it sets the experience apart from being in a hotel, which is great as well, but this gives you a cozy, personal atmosphere,” said Zeleskey.
Clientele ranges from parents in town to visit their kids at Ole Miss to tourists from as far as Australia who stopped in after seeing the bed and breakfast featured in a magazine.
“Kids are always excited when their parents stay here because it has that comfort of home,” said Zeleskey. “Really though we get people from all over the world for different reasons whether it’s their anniversary or just a vacation. We definitely don’t have an exact type of clientele.”
The Z Bed and Breakfast is open year round and reservations can be made online at Thez-oxford.com.
