Oxford, Miss. (TLV) – Oxford native Jason Bailey has been declared the winner of the special election and runoff for Oxford, Mississippi’s Ward Six. He will serve a fifteen month term to the Board of Alderman.
The hotly contested seat on the board began after former Ward Six Alderman Brad Mayo was elected to the Mississippi House of Representatives last November. A special election was held Valentine’s Day with candidates Katie Morrison, Liz Barrett, and Jason Bailey squaring off for the remaining time of May0’s seat on the board. No candidate gained enough votes to win, so a runoff election was held February 28, 2012.
After counting the voting machine ballots & the absentee votes at the Activity Center Tuesday night, Jason Bailey had 394 votes to Katie Morrison’s 379. There were 25 affidavit ballots that were examined Wednesday morning. Bailey was declared the winner, 409 votes to Morrison’s 382.
