On Friday, August 16, 2019, officers with the Oxford Police Department responded to Little Caesars on University Avenue for a male causing a disturbance.
As officers arrived and found that an assault had just taken place. The suspect, Clay Tatum (37 of Abbeville, Mississippi) fled the scene in a vehicle but was found shortly after on Highway 30.
Officers pursued Tatum until the pursuit was deemed too dangerous and terminated the pursuit. Arrest warrants were issued for Tatum and attempts to get him to turn himself in were unsuccessful. Tatum made multiple threats to shoot law enforcement officers if they attempted to arrest him.
On August 19, Tatum called the manager of Little Caesars and made violent threats towards Little Caesars. The US Marshals took over the search for Tatum and located him in Memphis, Tennessee.
The US Marshals transported him to the Lafayette County Detention Center after waiving extradition. Tatum was charged with felony fleeing and making terroristic threats. He was given a bond of $250,000 by a Justice Court Judge.
