On November 12, 2024, an officer with the Oxford Police Department took a walk-in report regarding money being taken from a vulnerable adult out of her bank account.
Upon further investigation, it was revealed that Demarius Dontae Carothers, 35 of Oxford, Mississippi, was the suspect in this report. The suspect was able to obtain this information due to a close connection with the reporting party.
It came to the officers attention that over the span of 10 months, approximately $10,000 was Cashapped out of the reporting parties account. Due to the above mentioned information, a warrant for Carothers’ arrest was issued by Municipal Court for Exploitation of a Vulnerable Person. Shortly after, Carothers was found with a stolen firearm in his possession and was discovered to be a convicted felon.
Carothers was then charged with Exploitation of a Vulnerable Person, Possession of a Firearm by Convicted Felon, and Possession of a Stolen Firearm. Carothers bond will be set by a Municipal Court Judge.
