On Tuesday, August 24, 2021, the City of Oxford voted to mandate masks in all indoor settings with in the city limits, as well as outdoors in large groups when social distancing isn’t possible.
The controversial move comes as Baptist Memorial Hospital – North Mississippi declared an internal disaster status Tuesday morning.
“The Board committed to reviewing this mandate weekly with the hopes that we will see the pressure on our hospital lesson quickly,” said Mayor Robyn Tannehill.
“We are not considering closing businesses or limiting capacities,” the mayor continued. “We do not want to ever consider that again but it is going to take some sacrifices to avoid it.”
