Ole Miss Football is back in action. After a season that saw the Rebels climb to as high as No. 3 in the nation, Hugh Freeze and company will conclude their spring drills with the annual Regions Bank Grove Bowl at 12 pm Flagship Standard Time on Saturday, April 11th in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. The game will be aired live by the SEC Network.
The main focus this spring has been on three quarterbacks battling for the starting roll. According to Freeze, it’s a tight race. Junior College transfer Chad Kelly and sophomores Ryan Buchanan and DeVante Kincade.
Freeze and Offensive Coordinator Dan Werner said all three are doing some great things and he is generally pleased with their recent play. They both expect the competition to continue into the middle of fall camp.
Injuries suffered to many starters from last year’s 9–4 squad will keep many out of the spring game. However, newcomers making noise will be the ones to watch come April 11th. Washington transfer Damore’ea Strigfellow is turning heads as Ole Miss continues its reputation as Wide Receiver U.
As practice continues, Freeze says consistency will be the focus for Stringfellow.
“We need him, he said. “I like his attitude and work ethic but we (coaches) need to get him to be consistent….hopefully get more consistent with ball-catching and route running.”
