This photo has taken on two different lives. It has been stated that the crowd at the Thompson House was there for a local parade. Granddad believed it was a photo from the day of the hanging of Will Mathis and Orlando Lester. Found guilty of murder, the pair’s hanging was said to have drawn 7,000 people to town. Granddad believed the black man seated in the wagon, at the far right in the photo, is Lester, atop his coffin.
