There was something comforting about sitting on the same spot your daddy and his gang sat a generation before. Familiarity made the heart grow fonder. From 1907, when the statue was erected, it has never changed, but the look down South Lamar certainly has.
Research has found two dates for this photograph of South Lamar, 1915 and 1926. No matter which you think is correct, what a muddy mess it was. The photograph below, looking up South Lamar to The Square, is noted as circa 1910. That makes me think 1926 is the correct date for the shot above, as the change from wagons to cars would not have happened in five short years.
