The Levys came to town in the last days of World War II. They opened a small grocery store on The Square and never looked back. When they did look back 40 years later, Jitney Jungle took up an entire block of North Lamar.
When the two old grocers retired, Mrs. Levy would eventually go to Golden Years Nursing Home. And for years, on into his 80s, Leonard Levy walked into the home past men ten years younger and directed Isabel out the front door for their daily walk. It is an Oxford-only memory with international appeal.
