Is your herb garden overflowing like mine? If you have an excess, consider making herb sachets. These fragrant bundles can be set aside for small gifts or gift toppers. Tie one of these bags under the tap, swirl it around, or just throw the bag in the tub as the water fills. You can also involve your children in this easy project. If your child gives these as a gift have them write a little label explaining how it is to be used.
Bath Bags
Materials list:
- Washcloth or layered cheesecloth
- Powdered milk (skin softener)
- Dry oatmeal (gentle abrasive)
- Dried herbs: Lavender, catnip, German chamomile, lemon verbena, lemon balm, mint, rose, rosemary, thyme, basil, sweet woodruff (health food stores carry these)
- Rubber band or pipe cleaner
- Ribbon
- Silk flowers (optional)
Measure ½ cup of either the powdered milk or oatmeal into a small bowl. Add three tablespoons of dried herbs listed above. You can mix complementary herbs or use three tablespoons of one herb. Mix well. Spread out on washcloth and pour the mixture into the center of the cloth. Gather all edges of the cloth together and secure the top with a rubber band or a piece of ribbon. Now tie long pieces of ribbon around the top. Leave the ribbon ends dangling so the bag can be tied to the faucet and submerged in the water.
