Twenty animals were rescued and ten were found deceased
On Sunday, August 4, 2024, deputies of the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office responded to a citizen of possible animal cruelty to an area on County Road 418. Upon arrival at the residence, deputies saw several dogs that appeared very malnourished and discovered several dogs that were deceased still attached to their collars and chains.
With no one home at the time deputies arrived, Investigators were called out. A search warrant was applied for and granted. During a search of the property, twenty animals were rescued and taken to a local veterinarian office for evaluation and care, while ten animals were found deceased.
On Wednesday, August 7, 2024, 47-year-old Terry E. Pegues was arrested for ten counts of animal cruelty. Mr. Pegues was given a $75,000.00 bond by the Lafayette County Justice Court.
