At approximately 5:30 pm on Wednesday, February 25th, 2015, the Oxford Police Department responded to a call to assist EMS in reference to a reported sledding accident at the Highland Square apartment complex located off of Molly Barr Rd.
Upon arrival with EMS, officers learned that a male in his early twenties was injured in an accident, only involving himself, after sledding down a hillside and striking a street sign.
Officers assisted EMS in transporting the victim to Baptist Memorial Hospital – North Mississippi, and upon arrival he was pronounced deceased.
The name of the victim is being withheld pending the notification of family members. The Oxford Police Department is still investigating this accident, and will make updates as additional information becomes available.
The victim of Wednesday’s snow sledding accident in Oxford, Mississippi has been identified as Ole Miss senior Fenton Kottkamp.
Kottkamp was thrown from a kayak he was riding down a hill. He slammed into a street sign and died from his injuries.
Kottkamp was a member of the Phi Psi Fraternity, which is decorated with black bows honoring the senior accounting major.
Kottkamp was from Louisville, Kentucky and leaves behind two brothers and his parents.
