Ole Miss alum and Memphis restaurateur Kelly English is set to open a new eatery in the old 208/Smitty’s location on The Square in Oxford, Mississippi.
The Commercial-Appeal reports that English and a few partners have bought the building directly behind Square Books, and the group will open a second location of English’s popular Memphis restaurant, The Second Line, in spring of 2015.
Kelly English is well known to local foodies as he has been featured by John Currence in his Pop-Ups at Main Event and City Grocery.
English says he plans to have a dish to pay homage to Smitty’s Restaurant, a greasy spoon that was popular in Oxford for generations before the real estate boon.
Kelly English is receiving the “Outstanding Young Alumni Award” from Ole Miss on Friday, October 16, 2014.
