COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations are rising rapidly in the state as the Omicron variant spreads. Masks should be worn indoors in public places to reduce the risk of transmission. As always, be tested if you feel sick, talk to a doctor about appropriate treatment and remain at home if you test positive.
Holiday gatherings and indoor activities can be major contributors of COVID-19 transmission. Please keep these gatherings few and small.
Vaccination remains the most effective way to prevent severe illness, hospitalization and death from COVID-19. Everyone aged 5 and older should be fully vaccinated, and those 18 and over should receive a booster at the appropriate time.

More than 1,449,932 people have now been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in Mississippi. Vaccination benefits you even if you have already had COVID-19.

State Trend
Cases by Date of Illness
This chart tracks COVID-19 cases according to the date the person first became ill, rather than the date of test results. It’s the standard way of following the course of a disease in a population. The black average line helps identify upward or downward trending. (In the few cases where date of illness has not yet been determined, testing date is used.) Since we are still receiving reports of illnesses that began up to two weeks ago, expect the more recent dates on this chart to change.

What You Can Do
- Be vaccinated, or get a booster. Vaccination is the most powerful step you can take to resume normal community life and stop unnecessary deaths. Booster doses are important to extend your immune protection.
- Be tested for COVID-19 if you have symptoms or believe you may have been exposed. See our guide to local testing providers and free testing at http://HealthyMS.com/covid19test
- Be treated with monoclonal antibody treatment if you have tested positive and may be at risk for serious illness. Details
- If you are unvaccinated, wear a mask whenever you are indoors, away from home.
- Keep gatherings small. Maintain a healthy distance as often as possible.
- If you are over 65, or have a chronic illness, avoid all large indoor gatherings, even if you are vaccinated.
