On Tuesday, February 13, 2024, the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office received a report of vandalism at Union Grove Cemetery, located on County Road 432.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered significant damage to the cemetery grounds, including desecration of headstones and the collapse of one grave. The suspect, identified as Nathaniel Richard Stone is alleged to have caused this destruction.
Sheriff Joey East stated, “We take acts of vandalism seriously, especially when they disrupt the sanctity of final resting places. Our office is committed to working diligently with local agencies to restore teh disturbed grave site and hold the responsible party accountable.”
Nathaniel Richard Stone was later charged with Destroying Public Property, Church Building, or Certain Cemetery Items.
The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office urges anyone with additional information related to this case to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
