Right Track Medical Group’s new podcast, South of Fine, is dedicated to breaking down the stigma that surrounds mental health in the South.
In the South, the stigma attached to mental illness still keeps many from seeking support or treatment. Southern states often have some of the highest prevalence of untreated mental illness and the worst access to care. According to the State of Mental Health in America 2020 report by Mental Health America, every Southern state except for Kentucky ranks in the bottom 25 for access to care and prevalence of mental illness.
In a new podcast called South of Fine, Right Track Medical Group’s team of experienced mental health care professionals will work to break down that stigma and normalize treatment through open conversation about the challenges we all face.
The podcast’s first episode launched on June 3 with a discussion about how the COVID-19 pandemic has changed our mental health. New episodes will be released every other week covering topics such as coping mechanisms, stress in children, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in healthcare workers, and college students and anxiety. Episodes will also attempt to dissect how the South’s cultural and societal norms perpetuate many of these mental health struggles.
Guests for South of Fine will include experts from Right Track Medical Group and healthcare and community leaders from across Mississippi. The podcast is hosted by Rhes Low, director of strategy for Red Window Communications.
As a journalist and actor, Low has spent nearly 20 years studying human nature and enjoys exploring how the physical, familial and cultural effects the mind and manifests in positive or negative ways.
Listeners with questions about mental illness are encouraged to email southoffine@righttrackmedicalgroup.org. We will not identify you on air.
South of Fine will be available on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Stitcher, Spotify and everywhere else you listen to podcasts.
