Andie Sanford moved to Oxford from Tuscaloosa, Alabama, in July of 2022, and by the first of August, she had established Oxford’s first wine club, already thirty members strong. Now with the membership more than doubled, Campus Wines & Spirits’ new wine club is on the verge of exploding into something much bigger.
With over twenty years’ experience in marketing and advertising, Andie joined Campus Wines as their Marketing Director. When store owner Luke McKey and his longtime friend and business partner, Joe Bittick, mentioned to Andie that they would love to start a wine club, but had no idea where to start, Andie put on her thinking cap and went to work.
“I looked into the laws here,” Andie said, “and what loopholes I could find or hurdles I could jump.” Rather than going a traditional route with the wines being shipped to members, Andie decided the best way would be for customers to pick up the wines in the store each month.
Currently, wine club membership includes two bottles of specialty wines each month, which are picked by sommelier- and chef-trained Joe Bittick. Joe uses his culinary knowledge to guide his choices, as well as keeping seasonal tastes in mind. The wines come packaged in decorative bags and include tasting notes and pairing suggestions for both bottles. In the future, though, Andie plans to expand the membership options to include tiers that will allow for more choice and flexibility. Members will be able to choose from reds or whites, a combination of both, and add on additional wines when they want more.
Besides the wine club monthly perks, Andie also plans to incorporate some member exclusive events. “My main goal was to create a wine community here that is similar to larger cities,” Andie said. “The events will bring people together who already have a common interest in wine, give them an opportunity to meet people, and to give back because they will be hosted around local charities.”
The price of membership is $30 plus tax, debited automatically on the 25th of each month. There are no hidden fees, and you may cancel at any time with a 30-day notice.
