OXFORD, Miss. – The Ole Miss Athletics Department and the University of Mississippi music department are looking for national anthem performers during an open audition Friday, September 1. The auditions will be held from 3-5 pm, in the Nutt Auditorium on University Avenue, across from the Gertrude Ford Center for Performing Arts.
Ole Miss faculty, staff and students, along with the general public, may take part in the auditions. Solo performances, ensemble and collaborative auditions are encouraged to participate. The selected individual or group will perform the anthem at various athletic events on campus – with the exception of football games.
New this year, electronic submissions will be accepted in lieu of this live audition. Individuals interested in submitting their audition tape must upload their recording to the Ole Miss Athletics Facebook page (search Ole Miss Athletics). They can do so by sending the recording by direct message through the page. This must be submitted no later than 5 pm on September 1.
“We are extremely appreciative of the partnership we have with the music department this year with national anthem auditions,” said Paris Buchanan, associate director for marketing and fan experience. “Having Rebel Nation and the Oxford community showcase their talent and be a part of game day is something we look forward to each year.”
Auditions may be either vocal or instrumental. All vocal auditions must be performed a capella and each performance must be under 90 seconds in length.
