Two Rebels Teams and One Individual Receive ITA Preseason Rankings
Ole Miss Women’s Tennis received three placements within the Oracle/ITA top-50 individual rankings highlighted with Alexa Bortles and Sabina Machalova voted as the No. 24 doubles team.
Alexa Bortles, Sabina Machalova, Tereza Janatova, and Anna Vrbenska all received national recognition by the ITA in the 2021 preseason individual rankings. Bortles and Machalova were voted No. 24 in doubles, and Janatova and Vrbenska were voted as the No. 44 pair. In singles, Machalova was voted as the No. 39 ranked individual.
2018 ITA All-American Bortles and her partner Machalova received a coveted top-25 ranking after dominating the fall, winning six of eight matches. In 2020, the tandem were 8-2 in 10 dual matches, all at No. 1 doubles. Bortles and Machalova peaked at No. 17 in the rankings last season.
Despite not playing in the fall, Janatova and Vrbenska have been awarded for their consistent success at the collegiate level and were voted as the No. 44 doubles team in the nation. During the 2020 dual season Janatova and Vrbenska compiled a 10-3 record playing primarily at No. 2 doubles. The No. 44 ranking is a new best for the doubles pairing.
Machalova was recognized as the No. 39 overall singles player in the preseason poll after winning five of six matches in the fall. She finished the 2020 season ranked No. 50 after winning six of nine dual matches, all at No.1 singles for the Rebels.
