On February 26, 2024, a Lafayette County Sheriff’s Deputy was dispatched to a residence on County Road 171 to take a report of a disturbance. once the Deputy arrived, it was reported that Joey Wells pulled a gun on the victim.
On February 27, 2024, Lafayette County Investigators followed up on the report and found Joey Wells was a convicted felon. Joey was then charged with Possession of a Weapon by a Felon and a warrant was issue for his arrest.
On February 28, 2024, investigators were notified by the Oxford Police Department of a residence on Jackson Avenue East where Joey Wells was living.
Deputies conducted surveillance on the residence and saw Joey Wells leaving the residence in his vehicle. Deputies made a traffic stop on the vehicle in front of James Food Center. Joey was then arrested and transported to the Lafayette County Detention Center.
Investigators then obtained a search warrant for the residence on Jackson Avenue East. The search warrant was executed by the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office and Lafayette County Metro Narcotics. During the search, an investigator located a firearm alon with a bag of white powdery substance believed to be cocaine.
Metro Narcotics later charged Joey with Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute. A Lafayette County Justice Court Judge issued Joey a $50,000.00 bond but revoked it due to Joey already being out on another felony bond. Joey Wells is currently being housed at the Lafayette County Detention Center.
