On September 30, 2021, at approximately 5:21 pm, the Oxford Police Department responded to a call in the 400 block of Saddle Creek Drive for a reported disturbance that escalated into a shot being fired.
Officers located the suspect, later identified as Paul Rice, 26, of Oxford, Mississippi and took Rice into custody without incident. The victim, later identified as Quintin McDonald, 29, of Como, was struck one time and subsequently died from injuries related to the gunshot wound. Rice was charged with First Degree Murder.
Jermaine Cox, 40, of Oxford was charged with Tampering with Evidence and Possession of Weapon by a Convicted Felon.
Rice was issued a $1,000,000 bond by a Lafayette County Justice Court judge. Cox was issued a $100,000 bond by a Lafayette County Justice Court judge.
