We are seeing an IRS/US Treasury Department Scam emerge with our residents in Oxford. We have had several residents report that someone claiming to work with the IRS or US Treasury Department made contact with them over the phone to tell them that they owe back taxes. The caller then states that if the money is not paid immediately the IRS will issue an arrest warrant and come to their house to serve it. The person claiming to work for the IRS/US Treasury will tell them the amount of money they owe and demand them to put the money on a SNAP or Greendot card. When they get the money loaded on the card they are instructed to call another number and give them the information off the card at which time the person will dump the money off the card. PLEASE do not respond to these calls, this is a scam! Do not fall into this, never load money onto a card and give the card information to someone over the phone that you do not know!
