On October 3, 2020, officers with the Oxford Police Department responded to the 2400 block of Anderson Road for a report of a male attempting to assault someone.
Once officers arrived on the scene, they told the suspect identified as Roger Dale Matthews (25 of Oxford, Mississippi) to leave the area.
Matthews continually made threats towards the victim and after leaving began sending messages via social media app threatening harm to the victim. Due to the content of these messages, officers made the determination to go locate Matthews and arrest him to prevent any potential harm to the victim.
Matthews was subsequently charged with Cyber Stalking and taken before a Lafayette County Justice Court judge on October 5, 2020, for his initial appearance. He was given a bond of $10,000.
