On January 3, 2019, a K9 officer with the Oxford Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for not having a tag and the driver not wearing a seatbelt.
While on the stop the passenger, Jovon Hayes (33 of Oxford, Mississippi), informed the officer that he had a firearm. Officers learned that Hayes is a convicted felon. Hayes was transported to the Lafayette County Detention Center and booked for Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.
He was given a bond of $10,000 by a Justice Court Judge.
