On Sunday, September 29, 2019, at approximately 1:50 am, an officer with the Oxford Police Department was at the Chevron at the corner of University Avenue and South Lamar Boulevard when he noticed a vehicle parked almost right up against the front doors of the business.
The clerk told the officer that it wasn’t a parking spot and that it should move so customers could get in. When the officer made contact with the person behind the wheel he noticed that the driver, Richard Ward (36 of Oxford, Mississippi), was possibly under the influence.
A DUI investigation was started at that time. During the stop, officers learned that Ward at least two prior DUI convictions. He was subsequently arrested and transported to the Lafayette County Detention Center where he was booked for DUI 3rd.
Ward was given a bond of $10,000 by a Justice Court Judge.
