The Oxford Police Department has arrested one individual in connection with a recent robbery and shooting at a local hotel.
On October 20, 2024, officers responded to a call reporting gunshots at a hotel room. Upon arrival, officers cleared the room but found no one inside. Officers were shortly notified that a victim had arrived to the emergency department at Baptist Memorial Hospital North Mississippi.
An investigation into the incident revealed that several individuals had been at the hotel room. A confrontation occurred, during which a suspect demanded money and brandished a firearm. A struggle ensued leading to gunshots being fired. The victim sustained non-life threatening injuries.
On October 22, 2024, officers on patrol located the suspect, Christopher Suggs Jr (18, of Oxford, Mississippi) and took him into custody without incident. Suggs was charged with Armed Robbery and Aggravated Assault.
“I’m incredibly proud of the diligent work of our officers and investigators. Thanks to their dedication and quick action, we were able to bring this case to a resolution in less than 48 hours. Their commitment to keeping our community safe is evident in the way they handled this investigation,” said Chief Jeff McCutchen.
