VOX Artist Series presents “Poetry and Prison: an Evening with Judith Tannenbaum” on April 15th, 2014 at the Powerhouse Arts Center in downtown Oxford, Mississippi. Doors open at 6pm and the event starts at 7pm. Musical guest will be the Oxford based Mayflower of Death. There is no cover for admission. Food and drink will be available for a small donation.
This event is presented by VOX Press to bring about awareness of its Prison Writes Initiative, a creative writing program designed especially for Mississippi prison inmates. Judith Tannenbaum is an expert on teaching creative writing in maximum security prisons. Her book Disguised as a Poem is a highly acclaimed memoir about her experience teaching poetry writing at San Quentin prison during the 1980s. Crowd discussion with the author is highly encouraged
