On February 10, 2024, the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office made an arrest on a suspect that fled from law enforcement on December 15, 2023.
On December 15, 2023, Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office was assisting Pontotoc County Sheriff’s Office on locating an individual that was suspected to be in the area of Highway 6 East, near Denmark. Investigator with the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office made contact with the vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The individual then led Law Enforcement on a brief pursuit and subsequently got away.
Investigators recovered a stolen vehicle in the process of the investigation, and warrants were issued for John Ross Burgess, 33 years old of Pontotoc, Mississippi, for felony fleeing and possession of stolen property.
Burgess was taken into custody on February 10, 2024 without incident. Burgess was transported to the Lafayette County Detention Center where he was charged with felony fleeing and possession of stolen property. Burgess is also wanted in Pontotoc and Lee County. Burgess was set a $25,000.00 bond by a Justice Court Judge on Monday, February 12, 2024.
Burgess will be transported to Pontotoc and Lee County once he is released on bond from Lafayette County.
