University of Mississippi political science professor Julie Wronski has been named associate editor of the Journal of Politics, the oldest regional political science journal in the United States.
The academic, peer-reviewed journal is a leader in its field, published by the University of Chicago Press on behalf of the Southern Political Science Association. It features research from scholars around the world across all disciplines of political science.
“Anyone doing any kind of work within political science, whether it’s international relations, political theory, comparative politics, American politics—whatever your specialty or regional focus is, the Journal of Politics is a place for you to send your work,” said Wronski, an associate professor.
“When political scientists and researchers are trying to get a pulse on what’s going on in the discipline, what are people producing in its subfields or political science more generally, this is one of the places they go.”
Wronski begins her four-year term, which specifically focuses on American behavior research, on Jan. 1. She will review an estimated 150-200 submitted manuscripts per year, deciding if submissions meet the journal’s standard of academic rigor and accuracy.
“Not only will I have a pulse on everything that’s coming into the discipline, but I get to make decisions that are going to nudge the discipline as well,” she said. “It’s a big honor and big responsibility.”
Wronski, a trained political psychologist, joined the Ole Miss faculty in 2015. Her research has been published in peer-reviewed academic journals, including the Journal of Politics, and featured in popular news publications, including The Washington Post.
“The Journal of Politics is one of the premier journals in political science, and having professor Wronski as part of the editorial team is an indicator of her standing in the field,” said John Bruce, associate professor and chair of the department.
“Having part of the editorial process for JOP take place here offers huge opportunities for students, especially graduate students, to see up close how the publication process works. What they are exposed to here can serve them well in their careers for years to come.”
