On Thursday, May 20, 2021, after the publication of our election issue, The Local Voice received an email from Kyle Davis, the Republican candidate for Mayor, saying that he was withdrawing from the election in Oxford, Mississippi.
“A great opportunity presented itself in the last two weeks for me to contract with Koch Industries (Colonial Pipeline) after the recent attack as one of their Cybersecurity Engineers,” Davis said in his email to Local Voice Publisher Newt Rayburn. “This was sudden and unexpected, but the opportunity could greatly benefit my family and career and I just can’t turn it down on the off chance I would be able to beat Tannehill, unfortunately.”
The race for Mayor of Oxford is now down to two candidates, both Independents, incumbent Robyn Tannehill and 18-year-old Brandon Pettis.
For more information on these candidates, please read their interviews in The Local Voice #372, which was published Thursday, May 20, 2021. Free copies are available at over 255 locations in Oxford, or you can access the digital edition by signing up for The Local Voice’s free weekly email here.
Why continue to list one candidates age but not the other? That’s ageism in my book.
