On September 11, 2024, the Oxford Police Department responded to Highway 6 East near the city limits to assist with locating an inmate that escaped from the Carroll County Regional Correctional Facility. An officer was parked on Highway 6 when they noticed a description matching the suspect’s vehicle and then initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle.
After securing the suspect, Ryan Burks, 39, of Ridgeland, Mississippi, was arrested for Felony Fleeing in a Motor Vehicle and Possession of a Weapon by a Convicted Felon. Burks was eventually turned over the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department to face additional charges.
