Six Walmart stores in Mississippi are among the more than 250 stores that the retailer will shutter.
Stores in Belmont, Mantachie, Sardis, Walnut, Derma, and Nettleton are scheduled to close January 28, 2016, according to a news release from the discount retailing giant.
Walmart announced Friday that 269 stores, including 154 locations in the United States, will be closed, affecting 16,000 workers worldwide. The closures are a fraction of the company’s 11,000 stores worldwide and less than 1 percent of its global revenue.
The announcement comes three months after its CEO Doug McMillon told investors the world’s largest retailer would review its store locations in amid increasing competition on all fronts, including from online rival Amazon.com.
