Theatre Oxford kicks off their season with The Heartbreak Henry, written and directed by Ole Miss alum and former head writer of Saturday Night Live David Sheffield, and co-sponsored by the School of Journalism and New Media. The story features a 19-year-old Ole Miss student who is working as night manager of the aging Henry Hotel in Oxford, modeled after Sheffield’s own experiences as a student in Oxford.
According to Sheffield, “I went to Ole Miss for an education, but the real education took place at the Henry Hotel. I saw things at the Henry I never saw at home.”
Productions like The Heartbreak Henry (playing August 11–15 at The Ford Center) are great examples of why community theater matters. With this play, Theatre Oxford is helping to tell the story of Oxford—memorializing the past, responding to the present, planning for the future. And your involvement helps make that possible.
