Join your fellow Oxford wine lovers Tuesday, October 5, at The Powerhouse for the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council’s 10th Annual Three Blind Wines event. Voted Oxford’s best wine tasting event, Three Blind Wines is a great option for date night or girl’s night out.
To participate, guests must first find a partner and purchase three bottles of the same wine (red, white, rosé—all wines are suitable for the competition). If participants purchase from participating liquor stores (Social Wine & Whiskey, Star Package Store, Kiamie Package Store, High Cotton, or Magnolia Wine & Spirits), they may leave their choices at the store, and the YAC team will pick them up for the event. If you purchase your wine from another liquor store, you will need to drop the bottles off at The Powerhouse before noon on the day of the event.
Not confident in your palate? Consider purchasing a Sommelier Ticket. A sommelier will then select the bottles of wine for you, and you won’t even need to make a trip to the liquor store. Your selections will be at YAC when you arrive for the tasting.
On the evening of October 5, each team will set out two bottles of their chosen wine, with the labels covered, for tasting. The third bottle of wine is reserved as part of the prize for the winning team.
Masks are required for the event, but they may be removed while tasting wine.
Every guest gets to sample all the wines, voting for their favorite wine of the night. The team that receives the most votes wins all the other team’s third bottles. Winners could go home with a cellar full of free wine.
Team Tickets are $45 for non-members of the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council, and $40 for current members. Sommelier tickets run $110 per team for non-members, $100 for members)
“Three Blind Wines is one of the most beloved events the Arts Council hosts,” says Caroline Hourin, YAC committee chair. “After 10 years, Oxonians still get excited to see it on the calendar. If you don’t leave with the winning cases of wine, you’ll leave with a new favorite that’s available in your local wine shops.”
