The North East Mississippi Chapter of the Expendables Motorcycle Club is a non-profit organization comprised of military, firefighters, EMTs, and police officers who are devoted to a greater purpose of helping others and are committed to nurturing local communities. On Saturday, August 27, the Expendables are hosting Share the Road, a fundraiser and event to raise awareness of safety between motorists and motorcyclists.
Share the Road is open to the public, beginning with a motorcycle ride starting at 10 am from Mr. Feathers in Oxford to Southern Thunder Harley Davidson in Southaven. The riders will return to Mr. Feathers, and at around 3 pm the Delta Delta Delta Sorority will host a bike wash taking donations for St. Jude Children’s Hospital. There will be merchandise for sale at the events as well as good food and drink specials. Afterwards, a concert at Mr. Feathers will take place featuring popular local artists to promote motorcycle safety awareness.
Share the Road has also partnered with AmTrykes in Action, an annual event that builds recumbent bicycles for disabled military veterans. Amtrykes in Action will receive the proceeds from this fundraiser.
The Expendables Motorcycle Club’s motto is “Riding for a Greater Purpose.” We spoke to Expendables member MUTT who said, “I was in the service for six-and-a-half-years—in the army. When I found the club, it was the same . . . sense of brotherhood [as in the military]. Like minded people that wanted to help people and the community, and they had pretty much the same core values. And now we want to get out there and actually raise awareness to hopefully lower the motorcycle and automobile fatalities that are caused by carelessness.”
