Analog Sea, an “offline” independent publisher based in Austin, Texas, is delighted to announce the release of the third edition of its award-winning literary journal, The Analog Sea Review, a print-only hardback edition which features poetry, essays, interviews, short fiction, and artwork.
The current issue dives into topics of depth psychology, solitude, creative community, filmmaking, Glenn Gould, and the idea of North. It includes writing by May Sarton, Robert Macfarlane, Sophy Roberts, Barry Lopez, P. K. Page, Rainer Maria Rilke, Stefan Zweig, Virginia Woolf, and C. G. Jung, among many others, as well as exclusive interviews with German filmmaker Wim Wenders and depth psychologist Wolfgang Giegerich.
The previous issue of The Analog Sea Review was awarded a silver medal by the Independent Publisher Book Awards and was a finalist in the Next Generation Indie Book Awards, the National Indie Excellence Awards, and the Best Book Awards. As an offline publisher, Analog Sea distributes its high-quality printed books and literary journal exclusively to independent physical bookstores throughout North America and Europe (with currently over one hundred and fifty stockists) and communicates with a growing community of readers via printed letters and a free publication, The Analog Sea Bulletin.
Analog Sea is an American non-profit press with a mandate to support the printed word and local literary culture, including bookshops and libraries, as well as championing fair compensation for writers and artists and interrogating the effects of the digital revolution on the arts and letters. Based out of Austin, Texas, and Freiburg, Germany, Analog Sea was founded in 2018 by writer and editor Jonathan Simons.
Introducing the new third issue of The Analog Sea Review in his piece “An Offline Manifesto,” Simons writes: “Our work at Analog Sea is a search-and-rescue mission for a special kind of individual, endangered yet essential should we wish to pre serve truth and beauty through another dark age. We seek out and cultivate those for whom the roots of life remain firmly planted in the real world, unfettered by the Internet and its incessant drip of spectacle and noise. We want to inspire the artists, writers, and philosophers who maintain our collective ability to dream. How desperately we need the strength to dream and the artists and thinkers to show us how.”
